Although I don't know the exact year Mike passed, I do know he had married Jana Vinson (Jill Vinson's younger sister). They didn't have any children, and may have been divorced or separated at the time of his death. Some of you may not have known it, but Mike was diabetic and I believe his death was related to complications with that.

My memories of Mike go back to elementary school. He was such a quiet, sweet boy. I'll always remember his shy smile and soft voice.

I have very early memories of Mike as well. We lived about a block from each other in elementary school. We lived in the same neighborhood as Jeremy Hignight and Shannon Talbert. Bobby Taylor was over at Mike's a lot. We all played football or baseball or whatever was in season. As we got older we kind of went in separate directions but I always considered him a friend. I hadn't seen or spoken to Mike in several years when he passed but when I heard about it, it felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. He was a good guy.

Mike and I began kindergarten together in Ms. Clinton's class. His mom and my had known each other for years before that. My first memory of Mike is of him coming over to my house on Vine Street. I had just gotten my training wheels off of my LADY LUCK bicycle. I was still not very good at riding it especially in the grass. I was trying to impress Mike so I got on and tried to show him how big I was without training wheels. I wiped out. He said something to the effect of "Here, let me show you how it's done." And he rode all over my yard. I think I told him that I wasn't going to be his girlfriend anymore! Competitive even at age 5! ;-)

Of course like many other girls in our class, I also chased after Mike Coleman and got to wear his letterman sweater once, then he broke up with me. He was so cute and charming. I hate that he's not here with us. He was a good person.
